The subject says it all! It is about 7" OAL and is UGLY as hell. I will wait to give a description when I get pics (maybe tonight?). Thanks to Rob Simonich for the 1084 bar of steel, and to all the knifemakers who've provided inspiration. Even using two propane torches, I was unable to harden the entire edge, but I got most of it. After two hours of trying I settled for whatever I could get! Anyway, I'll try to have pics up tonight and you can all have a good laugh. The sheath for it should kick ass, though!

Well, I'm going to heat treat my first knife tomorrow. It is a spear point, 7.25" overall out of 3/16 0-1. I used files, hacksaw and a small gringer to make it and the drill press. I am almost ready to heat treat #2, but I need to even the bevels more. It is better than #1 so far, and I didnt even use the grinder! I'll try to get some pics, but don't laugh too hard!

Nice blade. I just finished mine. I think I will call it the Elephant. 7" overall, just over 3" spear point blade of 3/16 0-1 tool steel, heat treated w/propane torch, quenched in drain oil, and tempered w/ torch. Kinda flat ground, but no distinct bevel and im going nuts trying to get the file scratches out of the blade. I am trying to get a belt sander and some 3/32 or 1/8" stuff for my next blades. 3/16 is way too think on a little utility knife. I have a 10" by 3" chunk left that I might turn into a bowie or fighter or 2 later on. Its got a dymondwood handle, not sure what color and used some old nails for pins. the only thing I had to pay for was the epoxy, which I have used for my last 4 knives anyway. The steel and handle stuff was given to me by the machinist who did the heat treat. It balances right after the finger groove. The handle is about 3/4" thick, so it is a small, stubby, heavy thick knife. I was suprised that it actually took an edge it was so thick. The thing slices right through paper with no problem and cut thru cardboard decently, especially considering its thickness. not too bad for my first, but hopefully the other ones will be better!
