This is my go to blade for the woods redesigned . I gave the handle a little better chopping design. Feels good! This is 13.25" overall, 3/16" 0-1 etched and blued. Blade length is 7 1/2" and RC feels like 58 with my files. Now I need to find time for a sheath :D
Thanks for looking.

Why did you go with that size blade?

I chose the 7 to 8 inch blade size because of its versitility. Alot of knives that are larger go uncarried. This is big enough to handle ALOT and small enough to go unoticed if packed or worn on your side.

What do you do with your knife in the woods?

I chop, carve fuzzsticks, split chicken breast, cut rope. Anything you can think of ;)

Do you carry other tools, axes, saws etc?
I always have my small 2.75" sidekick knife on my person. I also carry a multi tool in my pack and always have a hatchet in my truck. I also carry a small survival kit in my bag and about 3 other knives. I also have a small folding solid fuel stove.

What factors went into the design?
I wanted something that had enough weight to chop and enough bevel to slice well also.

What changes did you make in the redeisgn and why?
This knife was based on Ricky Fowlers survival knife. I changed it to fit my style. I added a longer riccasso and made it a little more compact. It feels good choked up and I use it like that alot. I also added a larger pommel area to gain a little more reassurance when choping. I raised the grind line so it will cut(slice) better. One change you cant see is the I didnt ease the spine (top of the blade) on the right side near the tip. Held in edge up position I use this hard 90 degree angle to strike my flint. Works better than I thought.

I want to make a pocketed pouch sheath for it. Hope this helped. I thank Ricky Fowler for getting me inspired to make knives.

Beautiful ... I love the shape ! Question though , how thick is the blade ? It looks like a tough chopper :) I would definatly carry that badboy , very nice !
My "chore blade" for the mountains is an old OLD bolo type smatchet , the thing is a beast and it works like a champ , the handle needs some work though , at the moment it's just two wraps of paracord. Your handle turned out really nice too , what did you use ?

AWSOME,I have been meaning to contact you. what is the price on a knife like this? Please e-mail me at Frankecast1yahoo.com

The blade is ground from 3/16" 0-1. It has a nice wedge geomitry but still slices well. I used Micarta for the handle. I am liking that more all the time ;)

The line is the temper line. I like to rest my first finger on that longer riccasso area when doing fuzz sticks or similar work. Just gives me a better controled cut. I tend to sharpen sticks when making fuzz sticks if I dont choke uo that close to the edge with my hand ;)

u should make a piggy back sheath for your other smaller knife, and add a big pocket for a survival kit. knife looks great too!

Your reading my mind! I have a piggy back "Trailsman" and "SideKick" to make in kydex if I can. I just made the big pocket pattern for this camp knife sheath tonight. Hope to have it made in a week or so.
You know I'll post pics ;)

Thanks Rebeltf

Well,
I got the sheath done! My first pocket also. All in all not too bad. I should have had a leg tie down but better next time I guess :wink1:
