I need to re read the rules before posting a picture. They've changed some...

Anyway, I wanted it flat and compact so I used Truck bed liner, for the handle. I also used Ferric to etch the blade, let it rust and then used Ospho. That makes a less than perfect finish but it is very tough.

The sheath comes sometime in the next day or two. It will be camo cloth covered Kydex. The reason for the camo cloth is to camo the thing but more importantly, muffle any noise from brush rubbing the Kydex.

I would much prefer leather but it seems silly to make a knife for climbing/rope work/skinning, that you don't want to get the sheath wet.

I don't have anything to skin now but it has the right feel to it. I'll know in about a month.

The M2, as usual, took an unbelievable edge. It's just hard to get it in the first place. The 1075 nose took just as good an edge, it just won't hold it as long. It will also be easier to touch up. That's an important issue since that round nose is a hateful thing to sharpen.

I like the idea. I hope someone else here takes the idea and improves on it before Deer season.

TRuck bed liner is high density polyethylene, I hope it's not too slippery when wet. M2 ought to cut butter very well !!

Sounds interesting Peter, can't wait to see it. Why wouldn't you want a leather sheat to get wet? If it's been hot waxed it wouldn't be any worse than kydex about trapping water, though it might take longer to dry out.

Mete, sorry, I used the spray on liner. It's hard but not overly so. In fact it has a little give to it, not quite rubbery but very secure.

Will, I could hot wax it and might. I didn't think about it. I only did that once and deep fat fried that one! :o

Can't wait to see it Peter.

You can water-proof the leather and it will hold up very well. I've abused several of Tess's sheaths in the downpours and damp mornings we get here on the hill.

Big John Pawlowski uses truck bed liner on some of his knives and it grips and holds up very well. Looks kinda cool too.

Peter the secret is to use an old crock pot on hi heat, it won't get it to hot though it takes a while to get the mix up to heat. I first experimented with a sheath by heating the wax up in a tin can with a torch, you guessed it, french fried that sucker!

What do you mean by that Peter?

What do you mean by that Peter

A while back the board decided to change things some. I'm not sure about all the wherefors and whatifs, but from what I understand, picture posting here is for building purposes only. Not show and tell.

Now...for a knife this ugly, I will get enough "don't build them that ugly" suggestions to pass the rule block! :D

I see Peter. HEll...show and tell is fun :D
