Another file knife. This one with a hamon, stacked leather, micarta, and walnut handle.

Looks like a good file knife. I like the stacked leather washers.

One comment, if the bottom of the ricasso lined up with the handle rather than the (horn?) guard, it would flow better.

Thank you S.Alexander. I see what you mean and I will be aware of that in my design from now on. By the way the guard is micarta.

What he said.

Honestly it looks quite decent :-) Another thing I'd do differently, near the butt of the knife the sides appear to be flat. Personally I'd give those some curves. But that might just be taste.

At least this one has a nice grind (unlike maybe 90% of the file knives I see come by on facebook) and should cut well as a knife should.

Thanks XL. The grind took forever. The file started out around 5/16" thick and all I have is a 1x30

I like it. My tastes in fixed blades has changed over the years to more natural materials, and the lack of a pronounced guard. I like the ability to choke up as close to the edge as possible. This one checks a lot of the boxes for me.

A brown leather, pouch-style sheath would complete the package, IMO. Nice work!

Working with files can be rough. And on a 1X30 especially. Been there, done that. I still do the occasional file knife myself.

Did you anneal/soften the file before working it?

Yes I anneal and then straighten the files. Then heat treat and temper.

I'm going to build a 2x72 grinder. I have most of the parts needed. Just need to order some wheels and pick up some more steel. Can't wait

I love the abrupt change in handle material. Looks great. Can I ask what you finnished the leather with?

Sorry for not getting back to you. I just saw your post. I used super glue on the Leather. Works really well I have used it on another handle with great results.
