Good Day Fine Folks
I would like to ask my hinderer homies to take a moment of your time to brush up on your hinderer terminology
I recently posted a wanted to buy thread for an xm18 with a working finish
Well I've received around 10 email/pm's from members who think their production tumbled/stonewashed xm has a working finish
I frequently see for sales threads with incorrect descriptions
Im not sure where this misinformation is coming from
perhaps its you!
seems straightforward to me
sandblasted - blasted with sand, non reflective, porous, coarse, one of the darker finishes
bead blasted - blasted with beads, not quite as non reflective as sandblasting or as coarse, matte
tumbled aka stonewashed - partially reflective, pretty smooth appears to have tiny scratches throughout very durable and the most common finish
working finish - a mix of two finishes, first sandblasted then tumbled, arguably the most durable finish, not as common
DLC - Diamond Like Carbon, often seen on FDE (flat dark earth) and SWAT (black) models, similar in appearance to flat black or brown paint but 100x more durable
satin and hand rubbed finishes - reflective, shiny, smooth, sexy, commonly found on Ricks hand ground customs

there are plenty of threads here for reference

if your not sure which finish your xm has its more than likely tumbled/stonewashed however many members here would be happy to verify for you

for those of you who can easily identify different finishes please take the time to correct those who may be confused
after copy and pasting the same response to 10 different people I felt compelled to post this

Thank you for your time

**please correct me if Im wrong
**perhaps one of you hinderer hoarders has examples of each ;)

Here is a comparison pic of stonewashed (left) and working finish (right) on the titanium lockside. Biggest difference that stands out are the HINDERER letters, they still have the shiny machined finish on the stonewashed.

No confusion here...Working Finish is my favorite! I have one or two examples...

I don't know what to tell ya about "the Confusion" ( haven't seen any here)
As far as WTB/WTS or any listing, Many who "Sell" (Go visit a car dealer) know very little about what they are selling.
Let the Buyer be-informed as well as be-ware.
No amount of info or posts or threads will inform the uninformed.
People stay ignorant because they are lazy and it is a habit - and for no other reason.

The three periods after example were actually fine print...my computer started laughing at me and changed my font. :D

you should be banned for this blatant lie, or your collection should be redistributed amongst the rest of us :D heh

Well it was a weak attempt at being modest... ;)

Just trying to help out. I've had quite a few folks pm me in the past asking how one can tell the difference between sand blast and bead blast....between sand blast and working finish....or between stonewash and working finish. A pic is worth a 1,000 words so I thought I would post a few to help out. Tried to capture the glare from an angle also...I do need a better camera! :D

That one that you mentioned is anodized on the top left, it must have started out either stonewashed, bead blasted, sand blasted or working finish. I can't really tell from the pics.

Yeah...my pics are crummy...it is anodized light grey/green. Definitely has not been blasted...might have been lightly stonewashed and the ano hides it quite well...

The easiest way for me to tell if it has the WF is to look inside the jimping & HINDERER engraving, inside the Lowspots like inside jimping it will be a matte sandblasted finish, whereas a plain stonewashed XM will have a shiny machined finish inside the jimping.
