Good Morning Everyone,

Started the new job last week and been crazy busy and using my weekend to catch up on my reading here plus I mod another forum that I have to keep up with.

So with that, I was doing some browsing on the bay and in the sell area just to see what's out and it brought up some questions about the finishes.

It seems as if the satin finish adds quite a bit to the price, is there a specific reason? Does it hold up better than the others? I saw a sexy satin Gladius that made me wonder.

Also seeing some of the other finish pictures, they seem to come off quite easily with use. So is it just hard use that the finishes come off?

Any other info would be helpful.

Thanks guys

The bulk of the production work on a Bussekin blade is done by CNC machines. But to finish to a satin takes hand grinding. The extra time and attention has a cost, reflected in the higher price. The satin does not necessarily hold up better, but it certainly looks better on a safe queen. I don't much like coated knives as users, but don't like to pay for satin either, so I strip and refinish to a 'ghetto satin".

btw, be careful on eBay, many Busses there are overpiced.

Oh I wouldn't ever buy through the bay, but being new to Busse, it's a nice place to go to see a lot of the various styles and finishes

Welcome!
I used to prefer satin but now, if I like a knife I just get and enjoy it. As long as it's INFI, i don't care which finish.
I use, not abuse, my knives.

Among the uncoated finishes ( double cut, comp, bead blast Ect....) satin defiantly is the most rust resistant

Satin is beautiful but it does scratch easily even from kydex sheaths.
If its a user...no big deal tho.
I've actually sold a satin SFNO cause it was too pretty to use....I want user knives.

Yea I would never buy a knife like these and not use em. Just wanting the best finish to hold up to abuse

Just pick a color and handle combination wear the finish off when she is too ugly to take to the dance make her a stripper she won't mind....these are working blades the finish helps to prevent against corrosion and looks mighty fine with some use. When you can no longer tolerate the coating wear send her in for a SPA treatment or as GUY said Ghetto Satin finish with scotch brite....

If you strip a coating,, does it void the warranty?

Not only does it not void the warranty it reveals those tiny pock marks referred to as "INFI Dimples" such cute little reminders of the origin of the steel and the Competition Finish (which I miss..:(). I have stripped a few that show some clean finishing that only requires a small amount of work to give a fine Ghetto Satin not too far from a factory Satin finish...

Awesome!!! Im holding out for the next ganza, if I don't see anything, Im pulling the trigger on a ASHBM off the site,, holy crap I can't wait!!
Wish I could make it to Blade, but will be out of the country for work.

Go for it. Because the CG ASHBM is flat ground, the folks who have stripped theirs found then to be really clean under the coating. That was to be my plan, until i scored a DCBB one at the Knob.
