Hi there,
How does one finish G-10? I've read that it cannot be finished beyond 220 grit. I am interested in bead blasting some, but to what grit can I get it down to before blasting?

I swear I've seen it finished finer than 220.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

G-10 is micarta with carbon fiber used as the matrix instead of paper/cloth like micarta. use sand paper to go as fine as you want. 220g works well for a grippy working knife.

I had thought G-10 was fiberglass based with an epoxy resin as opposed to phenolic resin as in micarta?

You can finish it as fine as you want. I usually stop at 400 or 400 followed by 0000 steel wool for a slightly smoother surface. You can even buff it, but it doesn't look too good that way IMHO.

If you are going to bead blast, you probably don't need to go much finer though (once again IMO).

I have never worked g-10, but i have seen some highly polished g-10 that looked very nice. I think you can treat it like any other material and sand it as fine as you would like.

p.s. When I beadblast micarta, I sand to 220 grit and then blast

After sanding or beadblasting to desired finish I spray it with WD40. Slicks it right up and makes it look purty! :)
