Finishing Kydex Edges

One thing I'd like to improve on my sheaths is the edges of the kydex.

Can you guys suggest any good ways to finish (round and smooth) kydex edges? What works for you?

Thanks! :D

I use a new buffing wheel with no compound on it. If you don't have a new wheel just use the side of the wheel where there is no compound. It seems to almost melt the kydex and make the seem disappear. Use light pressure and as always, be careful on the buffer.

I use a dremel with a sanding drum in it to take off the sharp edges that I can't get with the belt sander, then hand sand the rest.

Andrew, I sand the edges to 400 grit and then I rub the edges with a mixture of 50/50 WD-40/Acetone. Just wipe it on the edges with a cloth and the edges become nice and shiney. Try it.

Hey Andrew...

Best way I've found to do it,,and keep in mind this is by hand work...I'm not doing speedy work, I'm doing accurate work..

Not to say that you guys aren't accurate.. I just prefer to take my time and get all the scratches out..

What I use is 3M sponge blocks for doing drywall.. They work well,,last a pretty long time and do an excellent job getting inside the sheath..
I use Med/Fine

Go over it with some light scotch brite and you'll be laughing...

These other guys had some good tips as well...Sooner or later I'm gonna get tired of hand sanding my sheaths...:)

Hope that helped..

I use a loose cloth buffing wheel loaded with Brownells 555 black compound. I've found that the abrasive helps to cut the kydex quicker rather than melt it (a clean wheel will work too if you take care not to get it too hot...if it get too hot it seems to smear. The 555 black doesn't stain the kydex and you can clean the residue off with gun scrubber or 1-1-1 Tri-chlor (or similar solvent). Works quickly and looks nice.

Thanks guys! Many great ideas :D

BTW, Eric, I'm extremely impressed with how round and smooth your edges are. I had no idea you did them by hand.

Hey Andrew...

No problem.Hope it helped...

Yaaa other than the grinding itself, the finishing is all done by hand. There are certain areas that you just can't get any other way, especially in the nooks and crannys..
