so what should i do to finish it? i have some different oil finishes, but don't know if they're what i'm looking for. any suggestions?

Moose can be very porous (spelling?)I have seen allot of it curl and shrink over time. The only way I know to stop this is to stabilize it.If you don't have a vaccum chamber available to do this with then put it in a jar of thinned down polyurethane and seal the top then let soak for a few days and then remove and let dry completely through, this usually takes a few days,if you don't let it dry completely you run the risk of having it shrink on you anyway.
Hope this helps.

Michael, don't you usually just put it in the refridgerator and let it set up? :D
A little whipcream and raspberry sauce may be good, too!

Mike IG has a set up to stabilize ask him if you can take a dip in it..

BTW good to see you back Bruce this place takes up a lot of time doesn't It :( .. :D
Bruce helped me out with a M/A scale stabilizing
job for a common Customer some time ago. thanks again Bruce. :)

Sorry, I had to.

hey hey come on whats with the food inuendos?(sp?) thanks for the ideas guys. i'll try out some poly finishes. this stuff is really dense! i have some picstures of the knife in the works. if i can just get them onto the computer sometime soon. thanks again guys!

Michael - if the antler is really dense then you won't need to use the ploy finishes if you prefer oil. I use a homemade oil varnish (linseed oil, turpentine, and pine rosin that works beautifully on antler and bone.
Antler and bone are one of the longest lasting knife handle materials known to man - when studying old knives you will find that bone and antler handles often are still in usable shape even if the blade is not, and most of the old handles were never sealed with anything.
