finishing out a blank

Hello everyone, I have a question and hopefully this is the right thread to answer it for me.

I obtained a decently made bullseye damascus pattern knife blank. I am too poorly skilled to finish it out myself and am seeking a skilled knife maker to possibly assist me in doing the final polishing, sharpening and fittings for it. Might anyone be of assistance in this matter.

p.s. I would have gladly purchased a finished out knife before hand but this was a gift from the wife and I and she would like it finished out better than my capabilities can produce.

regards,

Byron,
If you posted what part of the world you were in may help. There are folks from all over on this board. Maybe even someone right next door to where you are.

Yeah if you had been anywhere but Texas you may have had some luck;) Just joking guys. I am sure that someone will pipe in here and be able to give you a hand. There are some great makers in your area and they seem like a great bunch of guys to boot. Good luck.

My vote is to try to make a knife out of it yourself.

If you've made it to the shop talk forum to ask this question its quite possible you are doomed to be a knifemaker. Maybe your wife knows you well.
Pick a design you like appropriate to the size of the balnk and begin carefully removing metal.
Study, fret, get small burns and cuts on your hands.
You might come out with surprisingly good results.

If not you could always buy a fine Damascus knife from one of the scads of Texas knife makers.

Oh wait....are you talking about a fully profiled knife blank or a piece of damascus?

a fully profiled knife blank :)

And yes I think I am doomed to be a knife maker eventually. I have just begun to read the boards etc and trying to find places to learn the art!

My wife saw the fully profiled drop point blade blank and purchased it for me as a gift. Actually it will be my first piece of damascus steel to own, so I am trying to get this one done right hehe.

There's lots of good makers in your area with more experience than I have...I'm sure someone will jump in to help. I'm a ways off in the Austin area, but will be glad to help if you get stuck and don't mind the travel.
