Ive just finished a handle for my Mule its stabilized maple burl.
Ive tried working through the grits with paper and it looks even lighter than the previous grit.
The only way to get it looking good is to wet it and it looks perfect.
The only methods ive heard are using paper then buffing but i dont think thats going to do it.
Is there certain clear stains etc you would use to finish it or is buffing the only option?.

0000 steel wool, buff with Simichrome on a soft rag, then wax with paste wax.

I would say Bill's method is a good one if you don't have a buffer.

Try wet sanding the last grit that you use and then buffing it with a green chrome or white compound. If you don't have a buffer you can get a small attachment for a hand drill and rig it up in your vise. It's not the best option but will get the job done if you are not planning on working on handles all the time.

I just sand, buff and finish with Briwax. I apply the Briwax with steel wool. 00 or 0000.

If you don`t have a buff you can burnish it the old way. take it down to about 600 then take a very smooth round bar and rub the handle all over .Stainless is best.
