Finishing the blade?

I just purchased a Hapstone R2 standard with the 5 diamond stone set (TSProf in 150, 220, 400, 600, and 1000 grits). I know the Venev stones are recommended but at this time I was just trying to keep the price down and will get them latter on. My question is what is the best way to finish the blade by stropping or with diamond films? What would be some recommendations on which way to go? Thanks for any input.

I do not know. For what reason do you desire mirror edges? For fun? There certainly is no real practical use to them. In any case, 1000 grit will most likely not be enough to achieve a real mirror edge.

Get a couple of the leather strops they sell at gritomatic or the like. The ones made for your unit. Load one with green light compound and one plain leather. That should get you there. Yes, there are other ways too but this an easy way. I’ll put links below.

One additional note. You could could get a 3 or 1 micron diamond stropping compound and substitute it for the green paste.

Just new to sharpening and looking for advice on what to use for the final passes.

Sorry, I understand. I wasn't very helpful. What I can say is that I do not believe that 1000 grit as your max, will deliver true mirror edges. Perhap to the eye to some degree, but not on a microscopic level.

1000 diamond stone sounds pretty coarse, lots of deep scratches from the lower grit diamonds . if the blade is super sharp at that stage, you could leave it like that
