Hello there,

I was looking at my CQC-8 here and wondering if any of you guys has "finished" the V grind on it by adding the bevel on the backside. Are there any advantages of leaving it the way it is? Would I be better off leaving it alone, or adding on that extra bevel on the backside?

I did put the bevel on my commander some time ago, and I can't recall if it improved the performance, I know I prefer a full V grind, but before I do something that I can't turn back, I'd like to know what you guys recommend.

Thanks in advance, J.

I have done it on a couple of knives for other folks but I personaly see no advantage to a "double bevel edge" over the edge that comes as standard.
There is no real difference in cutting performance unless you want to start getting really anal about it and it's certainly no harder, if not easier to sharpen etc.

If you simply must do it you can't really just slap it on a stone or what ever and put a bevel the back side though.
You need to rebevel the original edge so the bevel being added meets in the middle.

I personaly like the single bevel on EKIs so I keep all mine standard, unless they get fully reground that is.

if you add a bevel on the other side, you're going to get a very obtuse edge angle.

I would add another bevel if the knife has gone through a regrind on both bevels.

unless ya know what ya are doing the results can be pretty funky, i had a commander done by a pro and it looked/cut well, i have seen others which like i said were funky, the worst being a tanto '7 a bud "V" 'd, funky, funky, funky lol.

if it was me i would leave it alone, if ya want a std "V" grind knife, buy a std "V" grind knife.

Yep I would leave it, Once you get the hang of it It will be the easiest/fastest grind to sharpen. Not to mention it is about as sharp as a straight razor, and it took me 6 min to get that way.

With all the cutting I've ever done with my 10 I can't recall thinking it would be better with a double edge bevel. It works great as it is so I figured there wasn't a real need for alteration.

If you had Tom Krein doing a full on regrind, changing the entire geometry rather than just adding a second bevel to match the first, that's another kettle of fish.

I have a Spec war with a dual ground secondary bevel. I had it professionally done. It cuts better than the rest of my Emersons. Nice straight slice. The single groung bevels cut at an angle, kinda drives me nuts.:grumpy: I love Emerson knives a lot. So much that the single grind on the secondary bevel doesn't keep me from buying more. Right now I'm on a waiting list for a stonewashed Mini A100 and Horseman.:)

Well, it dosn't matter now. He's selling the damn thing :p

:o.....only by force, I don't have any other personal belongings to sell off that would generate much income other than my knives....I do plan on getting them back one way or the other once my wedding is over :D

I still may keep it if the ATR goes first.
