Finishing Wood Scales on a SAK

I am going to be putting on some wood scales on a SAK. I have been debating on what to coat them with once they are glued on. I am thinking tung oil. What do you use for wood scales finish? I don't want them shinny. At most a satin finish. I thought about not putting a finish on them. But I don't know if that is a good idea. Any thoughts?

Thanks

You should finish them, or they will get dirty and ugly. Tung oil, or boiled linseed oil will work. Satin finish polyurethane, probably would be more clear, and change the wood color the less. If it was mine I would use either a food safe boiled linseed oil. (Because I have that on hand.) Or a water based polyurethane. Nothing against tung oil or any other oil finish, I just don't have them on hand.

I would suggest whatever finish you choose, you consider finishing the scales off the knife. To keep the finish from getting into the joints and gumming up the works. Even the oil finishes are designed to dry and build a film.
