Ive never used these and im not sure how good they work, its seems you get less then 10 for 5 to 6 bucks...

Well while I was doing my search I stumbled on these..
http://www.fogdog.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2246965

Seems like they might be the same thing, yet you get a heck of alot more for 2.49, 24 to be exact...has anyone used either of these products??

Im going to go down to the local sporting good store and pick up a package of these for 2.49 and see how they work..

I will let you know how they work, if they work good, heck it would be a great buy to throw in the pack for that emergency tinder....

Here is a home-made option first suggested by Survivor on the Swamp Rat survival forum.

You start with a DuraFlame log or other "sawdust plus wax" fireplace log. Cut off a chunk of it and drill a hole part way through the chunk. Into the hole pack some cottonball. Seal the top of the hole with beeswax, which burns longer than regular paraffin wax. The wax lid will keep water/moisture away from the cotton primary tinder.

To use it, crack open the wax cover, fluff out some of the cotton fiber, and start the cotton with a firesteel. The heat melts the beeswax, which wicks into the cotton and keeps the cotton burning long enough to ignite the firelog chunk.

That's pretty cool, I bet you could cook up some soup or tea right over that too. Nice idea.
