Making a fire kit neck pouch. I want to add a small fixed blade or small folder behind the pouch, just havent figured that part out yet.

Mine's like that, but it fits in a tobacco tin. And I've toyed with the idea of encasing the whole thing in a leather pouch, just like yours... WITH a small pouch sewn on the back to either hold a folder or a fixed blade with the handle pointing down!

How to do? Sew the pouch on the piece of leather that would be the back and then sew the pouch together... I know, prolly easier said than done! Which is why I haven't tried! LOL!!!

Good luck!

Called Strike a'light pouch in English and I don't know what in Algonkin this kind of leather bag was carried by Native Americans,Mountain men,Long Knives and everyone who need fire in colonial times. Usually just a bag pouch with a drawstring closure. Works first time, everytime. Flint nodule, steel, char and dry tinder...

I carry mine on my hip. Fancied it up a bit too.

fits tinder, flint, steel, and a knife.

I really like y'all's neck pouches! May I ask a few questions?

1. Do you EDC them?

2. Did you make them yourselves 'from scratch' or did you use a pattern or kit? I used to enjoy leatherwork as a hobby when I was younger but have gotten out of it... I need to get back into it!

3. Do you have any trouble with persperation messing up the leather? I know some chromium-tanned leather can't be worn against bare skin or it'll stain (especially if wet), but I would think vegetable-tanned leather should be okay.

1. No
2. Yes I made it from scratch and did the bead work too
3. Mines from brain tanned deer that I got from a friend(scraps)and it will never stain or get hard, it's smoked.

MG When my pouch is finished I intend to carry it every day
And yes I did make mine from some old leather scrap I had laying around.
I have a 2'x2' piece of tanned moose hide I am saving for something, I just want more practice first.

mewolf1 Wow that is a nice pouch! Some day I would like to try bead work.

I don't have a picture of mine, and the style is not for everyone. It is a scraped and tanned whitetail deer scrotum from a large deer. If you do not hunt but know a hunter, they are free for the asking, and the finished bag makes an interesting conversation piece too. And no, I do not EDC it.
