Searched and couldn't find anything like this...

We've all probably got a decent list of knife makers running around our brains/computers. Does anyone have a decent list of those who put together fire kits or pouches?

Not just the UST kind of prepackaged stuff... but nice kits, leather pouches... you know what I'm talking about.

Rick Marchand @ Wildertools is the man you seek :D

John of JK Knives made me an excellent little fire kit (small blade and ferro rod in a leather sheath). I carry it everywhere.

All the best,

Look under possibles pouches.

Me? I'm a cheap ass and use an altoid tin to keep flint & steel kit, charcloth, tinder fungus and rock/paracord for bowdrill. Rick's kits are very nice and are of amazing quality.

I second what he said.

Made mine up about 15 years ago, I have other kits I've made up too.

One of the smaller kits.

If I didn't make my own I would seriously consider one of Rick's, I've got a couple of his fire steels and they are perfect.

Very nice. The kit bits (twine, fatwood, striker, whatnot) are not hard to find... but a decent leather pouch designed for that purpose, those seem a bit more difficult (for me). Did you make your own?

Searching that right now.

I have an altoid tin already... just hoping to have a dressier kit. :D

Those were some gorgeous pieces of work. Very nice.

Yes, one of my favorite styles, I've used this same basic box for motorcycle tool bags to portmanteaus and cell phone cases.

Thanks, TheGame and Carolina River Rat.

Agreed! I think it would be great if he started selling these!!

What is it you're looking for? I'm more of a trader than entrepreneur. I've got 4 or 5 things lined up for the leather bench, I like designing and cutting out my projects in batches, my work shop is a 6' craftsman work bench in my wife's sewing room. I've got about 6 or 7 veg tanned sides, two gator skins and 20 lbs or so of scraps of various leathers, I have Elk, Bison, deer, various rawhide, just a bunch of stuff.

I used to do a lot of custom stuff but in all honesty it was a PIA, I love working in leather but when I bust my butt on a project then the guy bails, well I don't like it. This one guy I work with had me do this elaborate hand tooled belt, I left it long so I could fit it to him, I measured him at work, had him try the belt on then cut it and installed the buckle, it fit fine, the next day he returned it, he told me it didn't fit his blue jeans. I had a bit over 20 hours into it, I was only charging him $160.00 the guy is so skinny this belt will hang on my rack forever, taunting me.

Long story but the best way for me to work now is to make stuff I like then if anyone wants it, sell it to him or make 'em a new one. Of course holsters and knife sheaths have to be custom but I've never had a problem with gun and knife guys, or motorcycle guys either.

If there is something you feel I can do for you please contact me, I consider the members of this forum my friends.
