This post was inspired after reading defaultuser's post. Now that the weather is becoming colder, fire becomes a more important aspect of survival. It is especially important to keep warm throughout the night. One way to do this is sleep out in the open and next to a fire and set up something to reflect the heat towards you. I find that lighting a fire next to a large rock works well especially if it has an overhang.

Here is a picture of a rock I used on a trip to the Catskills this past summer. Unfortunately the ground in front of this rock was pretty rocky so I couldn't sleep near the fire, but it did work well when sitting around it.

Anyways the point of this post is to see what you guys like to use as heat reflectors. Feel free to share pictures.

A fire reflector always seems like a good idea, but I can only remember using one once. On that occasion I used the side of a very large boulder.
I know all the survival literature talks about heat reflectors, but I just haven't seen the need. Maybe I need to do more winter camping....

I agree with you, but sometimes that extra degree or two could make a difference. Anyways, you should just use this as an excuse to get out and do some winter camping:)
