Merry Xmas and happy New Year everybody!
Anybody could tell me where to look for a fire starting kit (striker, flint, magnesium) on this side of the pond?
I need to find a place where I do not get charged a fortune and a half for shipping to Italy.

Ciao
Fausto

Hi Fausto,

Do you want something called a Flintsteel properly described as Ferrocium stick?
Our Scouting group sometimes buys a larger number of them and sells of the extra's as fundraiser.
I might have one Large Military Firesteel and a smaller Scout model Firesteel lying around (personal stash ;) ) but we'll also have a bunch of new Firesteels in about 2 weeks time as we're about to place another order for them.

I can't post pictures but send me an email and I'll zap over an picture.

Best Scouting wishes from Holland,

Bagheera

Ciao Fausto - I suggest you get in contact with Dutch forumite Bagheera. He sells excellent Swedish Firesteels, the proceeds of which go to finance his local boy scout troop. I've bought Firesteels and Traser Glowrings from Bagheera, and can assure you that he's a great guy to deal with.

Well, there ya go. Piet - we posted at exactly the same time, so I didn't have a chance to read your post before I put mine up.

Nathan,

Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones and a Healthy, Happy and Prosperous New Year.

After two days off copious meals I couldn't stay in my bed any longer this morning I guess the Italian cuisine also was suprime the past 2 days for you ;)

Best Scouting wishes,

Bagheera

Piet - Thanks, best wishes for the holiday season to you and your family, too.

Yeah, I tried not to get too carried away, but I definitely ate and drank too much these last two days. I basically came to the office today to get away from the temptation of the kitchen! I need a breather before the New Year's festivities get under way ... ;)

Bagheera and Nathan thanks for reply and advice.
Bagheera e mail will be on his way in 5 minutes, if Large Military Firesteel means easier to work with when compared to the Scouting type I would probably go for it.
Nathan, where are you in Italy? I'm in Genova and the weather sucks.

The army models are the way to go. While they are larger then the scout models, there really isn't much bulk.

I don't know much about shipping within Europe but, Bagheera has a large fan base in the USA! I am only one of a very large group of people who have been fortunate enough to hook up with Piet and get some of the goodies he and his Boy Scouts sell.

You might want to see if he has an extra Glowring to toss in too. I put one on my keyring and can't believe how something so simple has saved me so much time trying to find a miss placed set of keys :)

Fausto - I live in Pesaro; the weather's not so great here, either. It's been so wet that I think I could go fishing in my basement and grow mushrooms in my bedroom. ;)
