Not a survival story I'm about to tell, but never the less I'm thankful for the information found on this web site.
I read about the cotton ball, Vaseline fire starter here and thought it was neat. I didn't try it, but rather put it in the back of my mind for future use.
Anyway....my wife is Chinese and on Easter, its a family tradition to go to the cemetery to pay respects. My father-in-law has no "survival" skills what so ever and if it don't work, just add more of it because it will eventually. This past Saturday here in Michigan, it was snowing, windy and cold!
Part of the tradition is to burn some money and to light incense and place it about the grave. I knew this was going to be a challenge in this weather.
I brought a coffee can and the magical cotton balls. The cemetery was colder had more snow and was more windy than at home, boy was I glad I brought this "stuff". I put 3 soaked cotton balls in the coffee can and with a spark, they ignited easily. I was even amazed as to how easily they started!
The money got burnt (not mine by the way), the incense got lighted and it was a success.
I just wanted to say thanks for all the great posts here on this forum and just to remind you, that it doesn't HAVE to be a survival situation for this stuff to be handy.
Thanks again
