Fire starting with a Ka-Bar

With an inordinate amount of rain this year, it is still a little chilly in the mornings.
Let's get a fire going to warm up.

(1) Fluff up some jute twine.

Feather sticks are fun to make.

Battening a piece of Australian Blue Gum.
A timber noted for its straight grain, long burning time, good coals and tendency to split easily.
No drama for the Ka-Bar.

Place the blade on your tinder and use the firesteel on the top edge to create your sparks.
I always prefer this method as it gives more control in relation to your sparks, plus less chance of cutting yourself with the blade.

Success! Now chuck this into your kindling bundle......

and warm up those frosty fingers!

Actually, Organic flame hemp wick, jute cord. It's waxed coated and lights easily even in the wet conditions. Pretty cool little helper Thanks for sharing.
