Hi folks -

I was following the skills thread in ws&s, and decided to try dryer lint to start a fire - here was the result -

Dryer lint works really well, but it is a bit messy, and leaves lint all over the place.

I also used my Knatchet to make a figure 4 deadfall trap, but I was not able to get a decent video of that.

best regards -

I use dryer lint to start fires, TheZenfull1 told me about it. Works better than setting my jeans on fire! :o

Nice video. I've saved some dryer lint to use, but haven't actually tried it yet. Looks like you might need that first aid kit for your finger.

I looked at some of your other videos. You handled the 500 rather well. I was expecting to see it jump a little more than that. My daughter liked the fireworks video as well.

I was taught to use dryer lint when I was still in Boy Scouts and used it for a couple years but now I mainly use pjcb's and put them in all my kits. Great demonstration and beautiful Knatchet.

Hi kyturkey -

Thanks for checking out the other vids!

The fireworks were from Peoria on the waterfront this past July, and these are mostly all done with my phone.

The 500 thumps pretty good with a 350gr projectile, but the wieght and the wraparound grip make it reasonable.

Looks like you're getting ready for the skills gathering. :) Have you tried working a bit of Vaseline into the lint? That's my first choice fire starter.

I steal cotton makeup applicator pads from my wife and daughter, spread petroleum jelly on one, stack and spread, stack and spread kind of like a layer cake. They really burn a long time and I wrap them in foil which acts as a base when I use them.

Hi Jeff -

I have not tried that, yet :D.

I also have been trying to make figure 4 deadfall traps, so maybe I can make one of those at the gathering as well.

I am really loving the Knatchet - it is very good at de-limbing sticks, chopping (of course) and it does well at notching and whittling sticks for making the traps.

best regards -
