So I have the ESEE fire kit and the small ferro rod that came with the izula ii (and some misc 1.50 ones from meritline), but I'm having a hard time finding just the strikers. Any recommended ones and/or places to buy them? Or should I buy a LMF kit simply to get the striker?

Thanks.

Most common striker on here and what I carry is the striker on goinggear.com

Just grind out the back of an ESEE-3 and you're good to go with the best striker ever made!

I used an old rescue/demolition sawzall blade for cutting metal, cut it into 3 pieces and squared up some of the edges and it works great on the misch metal rod.

+1 for a little chunk of a hacksaw blade. if you put a slight edge on the back you will be in a shower of sparks

that and you will have a nice little saw if any detailed work pops up (snares and such)

I like the idea of recycling some metal around the farm, especially something with a serrated edge. I was wondering though, has anyone ever put a handle (plastic/steel/etc) with a lanyard hole on a hacksaw blade or other misc striker?

the ends have there own lanyard hole from where the blade hooks into the saw. you might have to drill it out but thats easy as pi. as for a handle, i just wrapped the last 1-1/4 inch in duct tape

I prefer full fine tooth jigsaw blades! Buy ones with hole pre-drilled and attach to rods. Lots of spark and doubles as limb saw

I use the Going Gear striker mostly.

Blade sharpeners like this work extremely well also:

They are available at Lowes, hardware stores, etc. I've been meaning to cut down the handle on one to make it more compact, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

File or spine on saw of multitool or SAK and if you have a SAK Farmers I use the AWL/Reamer thingy :)

I am leary of the GG strikers,I have several(6-8) but I had one fail me in the field,Test you gear before hand,I ended up using the spine of saw blade on SAK

I have an F1, which has a really good spine for striking ferro rods, but couldn't you just remove a section of the coating from the spine of your ESEE knife and use that? Maybe not the most aesthetic thing to do to your knife, but it negates the need to find and carry something else.

#1 Reason I have a Clip Point 3MIL :D

Aha! I forgot about the clip point knives! That is a good #1 reason for them! :D

Maybe once I completely wear down my standard RC-3 with my firesteel (which would probably take sometime the other side of 70 years haha) I'll get a clip point :D
