Hey Guys,

What are the differences between these fire steels, are they the same or does one work better than the other.

Is there really a difference in fire steels or does the scrapper make the difference?

Take a look at these comparison videos put together by some members on this forum.

The biggest difference is that the goinggear.com firesteels have a greater magnesium content and throw hotter sparks.

I am pretty sure they are both mischmetal firesteels. I have the one from goinggear.com(Storl), since he is an active contributor to these forums. However I have heard good things of the ones from firesteeldotcom as well.

There are a lot of different firesteel alloys and tools out there. I try to sell all of them.

If you have a good scraper and the proper technique, then any of them can be extremely effective fire starting tools. I personally use the UST Sparkie since it is one handed, compact, light, and works very well. I also carry a Badger firesteel (3/8" x 4") with a hardwood handle on it, just in case.
