Well, axe's are used for fire fighting so... current events.

Does anyone suffer from the consequences of all of these western fires a blazing?
In this area there have been numerous road closings and now a thick cover of smoke blown over from Oregon and California. Usually I'm up with the sun but is was so smokey this morning I've overslept an hour.

It's a bit improved today, I can just make out the ridge line on the third mountain range over. Still, the smoke makes it a very eery atmosphere in general. Ok, it's not the only thing a bit askew in the air these days.

Air quality has went from good to bad here. It's not terrible but the sun is a red spot in the sky.
I use the NIFC site to keep up with what's going on. I think they cover all of the US.....

We're pretty hazy here in Colorado and our own fires have not even started up. Smoke and haze here are from West of the Rockies carried by wind over the Continental Divide.

Does anyone else here use Inciweb to monitor the fires? I use it to find potential morel hunting grounds for next year - they grow like crazy the first year after a burn.

inciweb is one of the best fire tracking sites I've found. It's good for tracking current conditions, or planning for future "opportunities" - NW fires generally result in lots of facility and trail restoration work for the next 5 years or so.....;)
