With all the horror taking place in Virginia, we still must not lose sight of the fact that taking firearms away from honest citizens does nothing to remedy the situation. remember ......this is one of the first acts that Nazi Germany imposed upon their countrymen.

FIREARMS REFRESHER COURSE
1. An armed man is a citizen. An unarmed man is a subject.

6. If guns cause crime, then pencils cause misspelled words.
7. "Free" men do not ask permission to bear arms.
8. If you don't know your rights you don't have any.

If you disagree: God help you when civilization breaks down, no one else will be able to help you.

Politicians and diapers have one thing in common. They should both be
changed regularly and for the same reason

28. Blaming guns for Columbine (and Virginia Tech, etc. etc.,) is like blaming the spoon for Rosie O'Donnell being fat.

12. The Second Amendment is in place in case the politicians ignore the others.

I agree with all the points you made, but I think #12 sums it up best.

I'm continually surprised by how many people don't even know what the Bill of Rights is :(

To me it is about people who really don't understand life wanting safety. Complete safety is an illusion. It is amazxing to me that people who worry about an event like that at VT affecting them and trying to completely control the possibility of such an event will go out and start their car and drive off with out a thought. I have had the misfortune to lose in seperate accidents 2 cousins, a nephew and my oldest son to car wrecks. Of the 4 accidents only the nephew was driving and he was ran off the road by a log truck. I come from Montana where almost everyone has guns and the only personally knew who died from gunfire other than war was a friend who took the wrong road (drugs) and committed suicide. If you want to be totally safe live in a padded cell and eat a well balanced, well cooked mush.

One thing I wonder about is I was taught from a very young age to respect guns. I saw the results of them first hand with birds, rabbits, deer etc. I understood and would have never dreamed of getting into my parents guns (mom hunted to). Gun safety was a way of life. Hunter's ed was attended as soon as possible. Why do the schools now teach safe sex, drivers awareness etc and no classes on safe gun handling. If we teach gun safety will the kids go get guns. Same arguement as if we teach safe sex will they have sex.

Well-said on both points. Practically any idiot can get a driver's license, and those that can't, drive anyway. You can quickly end up with a 3000# unaimed bullet coming at you

When I was in HS guys were allowed to bring in their deer rifle and explain how to clean/maintain it, for their English class speech project. (With prior permission from their parents and the principle, no ammo, the gun was in the principle's office till class time, etc. of course.) No one ever got hurt. I bet that would never happen today. The only "gun safety" taught these days comes from a guy on the gov't payroll who basically tells them, "I'm the only one who should have a gun." I bet you guys have seen the vid of the cop who shot himself in front of a classroom of kids

Guns and massacers like VT are separate issues completely. The VT shootings was about a Human brain gone badly wrong. If there were any connection of this to guns it comes with increasing gun control. With tight gun controls it becomes clear in the mad man's mind that they can get away with murder since it is unlikely that they will encounter someone shooting back. It would appear that more of these scenarios are unfolding as the gun control lobby get their way in disarming the inocent, thus making life easier for the blood thirsty radicals.

I think it starts way early in life , being taught right or wrong being taught the value of life, and we will have to answer for what we do, if not here it will be in the after life, some will say , don't go talking that stuff to me..
but I do believe in religion, the right religion? that to a point doesn't mater so much as being taught, yes someone does know what you are thinking and you will answer to him when the time comes,, the fear of God will go a long ways if one was taught that.. the blame lay in us and it's us that have to fix it.
when we allow the government to take prayer out of the schools, and allow immorality to happen, what are we teaching our own to teach there kids..

what do the kids have to keep them in line today? a few good parents left?
just my 2 Cent :o
yes there are few kinked minds out there but through it all coupled with the press and copy cats wanting there time in the lime light, don't you think freedom of the press play a big roll in , hey look I can be on the news too,,
I'll show them I mean business, example, the terrorist using videos of the beheadings,,,
freedom of the press to terrorize is OK right? no? what is the difference?

I'm trying to be one of those good parents you describe. Honestly, I don't find it all that difficult, I guess have my own parents to thank for that. In fact I enjoy it, and it helps me feel I'm doing something worthwhile with my life.

I must say it sickens me when folks are surprised that I actually spend time with my kids, support them (not just with $$, with guidance, love and yeah, sometimes I take a tough line with them.) I don't care if this sounds sexist or whatever, but a lot of the problem is too many "adult" males aren't acting like men.

Sorry about going off on a tangent, just saying what I feel. I have a feeling you gentlemen will understand.

Great thread! I recently earned my CCW, and carry - on the weekends. My employment would ditch me in a heartbeat if I carried on the premises! They're really into control too; we have to go through an electronic turnstile to enter or leave the building. Like all the nice tasty cattle.

You gotta wonder what so many people are afraid of. Maybe I'm stupid, but I'm not afraid of anyone so far. If anyone wants to mess with my family, they're welcome to try - either they or I will leave the scene in a bag. I guess the people who are afraid know the police won't save them, but don't have the huevos to stand up for themselves. That is really sad and scary.

The thing about carrying is that no one should ever know you are - except the guy who thinks he's about to shoot you.

It's been hard to get used to though, for me. In all my years (many) I've never had to shoot anyone and I sometimes question why I think I need to carry now. But all it takes is one "damn!" when you should'a been prepared, and the world changes dramatically. I'm at that stage where I feel odd carrying and naked not. It'll pass.

So I'm making a holster to my own specs. Eventually the responsibility of carrying will become second nature. I hope I never have to use it. But I won't hesitate, and I practice a lot.

I've had a permit for I'd guess 20+ years now..
it was back when they called it a concealed weapons permit here,
this meant you could carry any weapon concealed. now it's limited to concealed firearms
Maine calls it now
resident permit to carry concealed firearms..damn I can't carry brass knuckles anymore :grumpy: :D

Here it's called "permit to carry concealed weapons" - but you can only carry one weapon at a time, a gun OR a knife OR brass knuckles. I'm sticking with the gun. ;)
