Fired up my Glen Moulton(legs), Indian George(burner), Don Fogg inspired vertical gas forge
I am fired up as well!! I smacked a 5/8" O-1 Drill rod for awhile even. I discovered real quick my
arms/forearms need work Thanks Glen, I.G. and Don for the help and willingness to share designs and advise with newbs!!!!!!!!!!
(I know y'all love looking at other stuff in pictures! Sorry my garage is a mess)
MANY Thanks to Ellis for the help with forge supplies! A real friend to newbs

Looking good, Tom! Garage isn't too messy at all, I don't think. :) What is that motor thingy on that roll around cart? I saw something like that in Roosko's pics, too. Compressor?

How the heck tall are you?? Forge looks TALL!

That is a tall forge.

Very good forge, I have two of this design. I let my blower hange down below the forge, this way when I shut it off, heat wont get to the blower and I don't have to remove the burner.

Fitz The forge opening is chest high. I HATE bending over :) I can always cut the legs if it seems to high! Oh that is a pressure washer (that I did not use on my gut barrel yet) I left the fan on for awhile after shutting off the gas

I fully understand the bending thing, Tom. My lower press die face is at 51" and even that is too low for me to see well without bending. "Mr. Back" complains visciously for days.

Something you may find useful is a little stand for laying handles on when stuff's in the fire. Here's how I made mine:

I went to the hardware and got two pieces of black pipe which would just nest one inside the other. The smaller pipe was a bit longer on purpose. I took the larger diameter one and bored a hole about 4" from one end and tapped it for 1/4-20. Then I set that in a small bucket of concrete (I used a 3 pound coffee can.) Welded up a little t-handle and tapped it for 1/4-20. Nested the other pipe inside and stuck a little welded slingshot-shaped rebar gizzy in the top of the pipe. Now I had an adjustable height stand I could move around as need be to balance handles on when stuff was stuck in the fire.

Don: I use a gate valve now betwwen the blower and burner. So I just close it when shutting it down and use it to adjust the airflow.;)

thats a good looking forge, did you use 10" body with 2" of koa wool and itc 100 to seal it up? is the blower a msc direct find? I am going to build a welding forge also, just curious Thanks

Mike It is 10" dia. 18" tall. 1" wool, Satanite (3lbs i think) Then ITC-100
to seal & protect the satanite. The blower I ordered from a link on Indian George's tutorial. The forced air burner is from the same tutorial. I welded
45degree pipe connections on the bottom of the forge so I could break the forge down easily. I simply unscrew the legs Glen Moulton's idea. I did grind the connectors to about 30 degree though.
