FireFox 3.5.1

I've always had both IE7 and FireFox (regularly updated) on my PC.

However my preference has been for IE7 - despite the many reported advantages of FireFox - don't get me wrong I consider FirFox a very good browser - but IE just remains more prevalent therefore more compatible.

A good example is the power Download of videos using Real Player -
on IE as soon as the cache/buffer is filled the download is complete.
Whereas with FireFox - even when the buffer is filled the download still starts from zero and is slowed by the actual playing of the video - so for faster download one has to pause the playing.....

I just updated to FireFox 3.5.1 - and I must say I am very impressed.
It still doesn't solve the majority of the minor compatibility problems -
but in direct comparison with IE7 - FireFox 3.5.1 is noticeably faster - whereas before FireFox was still faster but just not as noticeable.

I must say I am very impressed, so much so, that I am now using FireFox 3.5.1 as my default browser - only going over to IE when I need the compatibility.

I was the same way with microsoft products. I would only use IE. Well, when i got the ie 8 download, it was around the time that i also wipe my hard drive and reinstall windows (about 2 or 3 times a year i do this). So, i decided to download firefox before i wiped it. I hated IE 8 and prefer ie 7. Firefox is the best. Also, i recommend downloading Fasterfox. It makes it 10x faster!

oooo! many thanks for that hint!

It is actually now FasterFox 3.8.1Lite

While I was at the add-on page I also found IE Tab 1.5.20090525 - which is what the name suggests - opens IE in a FireFox tab - this helps mitigate some of the compatibility issues - BUT I still can't get the Real Player power Video download to work in an IE tab - so I still have to open IE7 separately to do it.

However some others do work like viewing message source in Hotmail for SpamCop reporting - under FireFox - SpamCop always complains the headers are incomplete - but using the IE tab will work with SpamCop.

Another issue was using PicasaWeb Photos with IE7 I can use their Upload control which allows drag&drop of multiple photos - but FireFox will only allow their basic loader. Using the IE tab will allow the Upload Control.....

If only I can figure out the Real Player power Video download - then I'd be all set....

Well, Coral IE tab is better. I've used both. Ok the real player download is under plugins on the add ons page. I knew it was fasterfox 3.8 lite, but they don't list it as fasterfox lite anymore, which was the previous versions name. Just browse the plugins. I suggest going through the preferences and changing the download option to either ask where to save or save to desktop.

Thanks again for the tips.

I am trying out Coral IE Tab right now -
Unfortunately the Real Player video download doesn't work with that either.

I already have the Real Player video download plugin - but it works as I described in the opening post under FireFox - whereas it is much more intelligent under IE7 finishing the download as soon as the cache/buffer is filled.

So in the meantime I'll still open IE7 separately to download videos.

Thanks,

FWIW - well OK I've used Coral IE Tab with FireFox 3.5.1 for over a week now - yes, it does work well - BUT it appears that I have use the Retry link button every time I invoke Coral IE tab for it to work properly - this was just a matter of change in habit - but a little annoying.

So since I had the regular IE Tab already as part of my Add-Ons (note I always make sure only one or the other is active - I have never had both active) - I re-activated regular IE Tab and it seems to do better, and it hasn't had to retry/refresh to work properly. So for now I am using regular IE Tab.

Thanks
