for everyone using firefox, if you rely on security/ad/blocking extensions ... they just broke (about an hour ago) everything

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1548973

so as of right now, every firefox has broken a cert and as a result, security extensions like no-script, abp, ublock etc etc etc are all disabled

this is a serious risk for anyone who takes security seriously

imho, it makes good sense to temporarily switch to chrome, or palemoon (if you're an advanced user), or something which still has working extensions for now (maybe opera?)

Yeah , just noticed this . Sort of hoping it will self correct eventually ?

Did they break it with a knife???

Anyway...try Brave.

at least the firefox developers are aware of the situation, but pushing any kind of update on a cert can be a tricky (or time consuming) thing... so it might be broken for a little while, hard to tell

You guys still use computers for this? Lol.

I know it doesn’t help, but thanks for the laugh regardless.

if you had any idea of how messed up allowing scripts to run from any random website you browse actually is, you would not be lol'ing

running scripts on a phone does not make it safer, if you went down this rabbit hole you really might be worried

...
there is a reason I have not got a virus in 10+ years, and no-script is part of it, and ad-blockers also help believe it not...
a very common recent attack vector for criminals is to buy ads from google/amazon/any-big-ad-company here... then get their banners to pop up all over the net, then, once in a while they load an ad with malware for a few minutes then infect a few thousand people and then turn the banner back to normal

very hard for the ad companies to catch, and very easy to get your phone/laptop/computer infected

Strangely, my iPhone remains unaffected. It used to be a “thing” in the computer nerd community that if you wanted a virus free setup to buy a Mac because nobody used to write viruses for them. Is that still a “thing”?

I'm on Firefox Quantum on a Mac, and all add ons are still working. Including UBlock Origin (add blocker) and uMatrix (script blocker). Weird.

I received this e mail from lifelock

What Happened?
On Monday, a pair of security researchers shared their discovery of an unprotected online database containing the personal information of up to 80 million US households.

The personal information found in the huge database, discovered on a cloud server, includes combinations of:
  • Physical address (city, state, zip)
  • First and last names of individuals in the household
  • Age and dates of birth
  • Longitude and latitude of the household

Additionally, the database was found to include coded results for: title, gender, marital status, income, homeowner status, dwelling type. Social Security number and payment information was not found in the database.

What Does this mean?
A data exposure or data leak is different from a data breach. In a breach, unauthorized access to sensitive information is intentional. In a data exposure like this one, the sensitive information is left out in the open, often because the server was not set up with the proper security.

The security researchers believe the database may belong to an insurance, healthcare, or mortgage company, in part because the data appears to be limited to people over the age of 40. The database has been up and potentially leaking information since February. The cloud storage provider notified the data owner who is responsible for securing it and has taken steps to limit unauthorized access.

Goto adjust time and date in windows. Turn off set time automatically. Then press change date and time and set it to may 2nd then press change. Restart Firefox or logout and log back into windows and they should be back.

You may have to do this every day until Firefox release 66.04
Once the new release updates... In Firefox goto help then about Firefox and it should download and update and ask to restart ff when done.

Once ff is back you may have to set the day back to goto some sites. So you may have to go back and forth here.

Dunno when they will update though. Hopefully soon.

There are other ways to fix it, but I didn't want to loose all my open/saved tabs. So this was the easiest for me.

And yes these plugins are necessary on a pc.

Firefox just got patched. Goto the menu and select about Firefox then click update. Once it's updated press restart Firefox. You should be good to go.

Fixed without needing to be in the study program, so if you were using the interim patch, that is no longer needed.
