I really liked the older version of Firefox, but it started having some problems, so I installed V. 3.6.12. It works well except for one thing. I can't seem to get it to remember passwords. For instance, I have to manually log in to BF every time. I didn't have to do that with the older version. (3.0.19) I have every setting that I can find set to accept BF cookies and to remember my user name and password. I have the same problem with all the other sites that I frequent.

Any ideas? (Asking on the Firefox forum is a waste of time)

Hi,

I can't say I've ever had that problem with Firefox, but I use xmarks addon to manage my bookmarks. And I can set it to keep track of my passwords also. Works great for keeping bookmarks and passwords up to date across different computers.

I actually work for Mozilla (the folks who make Firefox), so this might be your lucky day :D

Are you using Windows, Mac, or Linux?

Please feel free to PM me, and I'll see if I can do anything to help you out.

May not be relevant but I started having some weird problems with FF randomly not displaying pictures people had posted. Also it didn't seem to display some colours correctly, like the various different user names in BF.

I decided to try Iron. This is basically Chrome but with all the Google spyware and crap removed from it. Very fast browser and I've never had a problem with it. If you don't have any success with FF give it a try.

Would you mind posting the solution you come up with? I am having the same problem with random sites. Please PM if you would rather keep it private.

You bet.

If it's just a few sites, it might be as simple as them setting temporary cookies, or otherwise invalidating your session. If it's every site, you might have Private Browsing turned on.

Have you tried the old good solution:

Uninstall the browser completely and install it again?

I asked a computer guru at work about the problem. He said that with the current version of Firefox you can have privacy OR saved passwords, but not both.

Maybe the next version will solve that problem. Maybe not. It's not that big of a deal.

I recommend a separate password manager. I use PasswordSafe on a flash drive both for generation and keeping things organized. It means re-logging in every so often to access the passwords, but it's simpler than having a file that could be accessed, say, if you took the computer in for repair. I also keep backups on other flash drives to be safe.

Hell, my main gripe about FF is FF Portable, which now seems to run a FF and FFP session simultaneously. FFP seems to write to the hard drive at least temporarily during the session, which I don't like. The older versions kept things off the hard drive entirely.
