At work the official supported browser is IE with certain add-ons shut off. For instance, all Google maps are static pics. (frickin' 21st century corporations.) As a result, most of us run Firefox on the side.
Last week my Firefox updated itself, and immediately crashed. Wouldn't load diddly squat. Every time I tried to start it, all I got was a pop-up crash report screen.
I uninstalled it completely and reinstalled it. No Joy.
I uninstalled, rebooted, then reinstalled. No Joy.
I finally found a web reference that mentioned firewall settings that could block a new version of FF. I can't touch the corporate firewall settings on my PC. But with a bit of digging, I found that FF maintains an old version, version 3.6 which you can download. FF calls it downgrading and says that doing so will not fix most problems. Well maybe not most problems, but it did fix mine. It runs like a champ. Several other folks at work had the same problem of FF suddenly not running. They, also were able to download and run version 3.6. Joy.
I mention this because if any of you folks work in a cube farm in a corporation with a mother-knows-best IT department, y'all might have similar issues. So, I thought I'd share.
