Just finished a few of these sheaths and firekit setups.

Those look great. I have a couple of similar firesteels but am also curious as to what the handle is. It looks like micarta to me.

Wow, that's a really sweet idea! I've been thinking of doing something similar, because I hate paying for things, and I don't want to get the ESEE pouch for my -6.

Nice set ups but I have a suggestion on the ESEE fire kit. It is probably not a good idea to secure it by using the rod. I would try to figure out a way to use the aluminum barrel as the structure holding the fire kit in the sheath. If you put enough stress on those rods you can break them off . So I could see maybe traveling through the bush and it gets hung up on a piece of brush and you fight your way through it only to find down the trail the rod is still in the sheath with the housing broken off and gone. Just my 2 cents. Mike

This gives me a new idea for a firesteel holder....
Well the gear/ranger band work good.

Good looking setups there. Question on the rod, when it is used up can the old on be removed and a new section put in or is the rod handle a one time thing?

Yeah you can replace them. The old versions with the Mischmetal-rod were screwed in, the new ferro-rods are epoxy'd in ;) So it depends on which version you get hands on. To replace the old one simply unscrew the rod and attach the new one to the container, the newer version needs to be heated up for replacement. There are quite some other threads sharing best methods for each version of this great FireKit.
