Alright you HOGS, I've been looking around for a good fireproof gun safe and so far I really like Fort Knox Safes. Any other suggestions or opinions/experience from you INFI hording HOGS would be greatly appreciated as these dang safes are not cheap

Skunk has posted pics of his safe on several occasions. I don't know the brand but it looks like VERY high quality.

You can mail them to me and I can bury them in the Great Alaskan Bush. Dirt is fire proof... least that's what "they" claimed

Also, check out Sportsman Steel. Gun Test gave them very high marks for the $$$. Bought mine back in '91 or '92. So far it's kept my guns, knives and Bourbon safe.

I had a Fort Knox custom made to my specs. Came out really nice! This was about 15 years ago, safe still works like new!

Good luck - oh, make sure your safe rests on a platform made of wood, and also purchase a golden rod for the interior to keep your stuff rust and mildew free! This means you need to put the safe in the proximity of a socket.

I’m interested in finding out what a golden rod is?? I’ve never heard of them here. Sounds electrical?

I keep a couple of small bags of those moisture absorbing crystals in mine and they seen to work OK.
We always need to be mindful of buying electrical goods from the US as our mains are 240 volts.. I think yours are different?

A Golden rod is sort of a heater for a safe. Yes, you plug it in and it gets and stays warm enough to keep condensation away and lowers the humidity. Ours run on 110 volts. I've never used mine. Seems like the gas water heater in the garage is enough to keep everything dry. OTOH, my buddies safe is in a bedroom closet with AC and if he doesn't use a golden rod there is rust quick.

Should be available in 240V, it's just a heating element like what keeps the coffe warm after it's brewed. Not hot, just warm.

another vote for Fort Knox safes from me... I've had one for 8 years now and it still opens like the day it was delivered... smooth and easy. hihghly reccomend them. Easy people to deal with.
they used to give a discount for lawenforcement and military if either of these apply to you. buy direct from them and get exactly what you want for options and colors.

I am going to buy a smaller safe for some hand guns and I will probably buy Fort Knox' small safe.
remember, with safes, you get what you pay for.

I have a Liberty, bought it nearly 6 years ago and I like it. Thankfully I have not had opportunity to test it's fire rating. :) Mine sits out in the living room, since I have a sharp turn at the bottom of my basement stairs, I can't get it down there. :( Someday I might get a couple of smaller safes and sell the bigger on so I can get them down stairs. I have never used my golden rod either and all my guns and knives remain rust free. Although, it might be time for a clear the safe out and inspect all the items inside all day event.
