I just purchased on of these from this guy and received it in the mail today. I haven't really played with the magnesium rod yet, but the piece of hacksaw blade really throws a great spark with the ferro rod. It throws the kind of sparks that dance into the air!!! As long as there is dry tinder, I don't foresee every having to use the magnesium rod. For less than $8, I think this is an incredible piece to take hiking/camping or put in your PSK. Just wanted to share, enjoy...

Nice kit, I bought one as well, then decided to make a few of my own, substituting the magnesium bar with treated cotton balls. A few small pieces of fatwood doesn't hurt either. Homemade one pictured.
