I am planning to get a Sharpshooter sheath with firesteel loop for my RC-3. I have read that some coating on the blade needs to be removed to get a good strike on the firesteel.

What is the best way to remove part of the coating? I assume the spine near the tip would be the best location??? Does anyone have pictures of their RATs after they have done this?

Thanks!

I would think that the action of striking the fire steel would remove just the amount that would be needed. Might take a few extra tries, but.....

If you're going to use the spine for the firesteel, then you would have to make the edge of the spine sharper than it is now, because you won't get a strike just removing the coating.

Yep, removing the coating on its own won't do it. The edge isn't quite sharp enough on its own.
