I just got a new fire piston, a Numyth, and I am impressed.
So, my question is, which one would you pick for an wilderness kit?
This isn't about survival, or anything like that, its just for a knife kit I been playing around with. The kit as it stand now, has a BK7 with some custom micarta handles, 20'+ foot of paracord, a tin that has 9 cotton balls in a straws, 25' of jute twine, and a 3/8"x4" Goingear mischmetal firesteel.
Its something I'm putting together for some hunting this year, and I've got he whole setup hanging from a paracord baldric I wove this weekend.
So, based on my skill level, I feel pretty confident in what I got.
But, this new fire piston has me intrigued, very much so. So far, I've had 20 successful attempts to get a substantial coal going, quickly and even one handed.
So, my question is, which skill would you go with, firesteel or fire piston?
