Firestone Deluxe Axe Marked 001

Just purchased a Firestone Deluxe from a local online auction and was wondering if anyone had any information on the axe itself and especially the 001 marking, serial number maybe?

The fact that axes weren't serialized in general and the fact that this number stamp is upside down suggests the owner, or firm (surveyor?) did this. Letter and number stamps for wood or metal are available at many hardware stores.
