firewall?? Why isnt it turning on..tech help needed

Ok..I have xp on this box...stupid updates of microsoft service pack 2...updates for about a half hour then stalls out...I have to cntrl/alt/delete/ then reboot...now everything is working however my windows firewall is turned off an my frickin norton reminds me of this..every dam time ...but when I go to the control panel and it cannot display the firewall settings because the internet connection service is not running...do I wish to turn this on...I click yes and then it says that it cannot turn this service on...WTF...???? Ive looked in advanced settings for internet connection wizard..cant find this thing...

any help would be appreciated...

You have Norton; is it running a firewall already? If not, I'd suggest going to the Windows service site. Clearly describe the problem, and they'll either refer you to a tech article to fix same or do an online service chat.

I don't use the XP firewall because by most accounts it's inferior to even the free Zone Alarm job which I've been using for years.

The firewall built into Windows is pretty useless anyway if you ask me. Just download one of the freely available firewalls and use it instead, your computer will thank you for it.
