I've been doing a lot of reading and research on building a 2 brick forge. I'm planning to build a 2bf like the one made in:

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/920120-Virtual-BBQ-2-Brick-Forge-WIP

I have acquired the soft insulating fire brick and my mesh to wrap the bricks in. I have refractory cement to coat the inside of the chamber and threaded rod to hold the bricks together. A MT245c was purchased. And I have all the necessary tools.

The torch is my question. I don't have the funds to purchase a true burner so I will be using the MT245c. It seems to me that I read somewhere that people were using this torch but they had modified it in some way. Is there a way to make this a better torch for the forge application? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I guess another question is the Venturi Burner. Is it over kill for a 2 brick forge? Can a Venturi burner be made with 1/2 inch pipe instead of 3/4 inch?

The burners that I sell on my website are custom designed to work with a 2BF. The mod to an MT245C will only up the output to around 5K BTU, 20K is recommended for welding temps and 15K for forging. A modded MT245C will get hot enough to forge, but the difference is night and day.

So an atlas 30 k will allow me to weld? But I will not be able to with the MT245C? Even if it is modified? Can the atlas 30k be used to heat treat? Or is it overkill?

Thank you for being kind and taking the time to answer my questions. I just don't want to waste money buying things I don't need or that will be inadequate. Thank you.

Overkill? That's like asking if a minivan is overkill for taking kids to the park. A horse and buggy will do the job, so yes, a minivan is overkill in that respect. However, a minivan is purpose built to be the best at taking kids to the park. Likewise, an Atlas burner is purpose built for a 2BF. In my opinion, nothing works as well for that forge design or size.
