Hi all, I have a experience I'd like to share that happened to me last Friday.
To me, this really reinforced the "knowledge is more important" and more importantly, it was knowledge that I never expected to have to use. It also puts things into perspective of what is important.
I went to work Friday and was chatting with a coworker when I heard someone say down the hall that someone was having a heart attack and to dial 911. Me and another guy ran into the office and found another coworker slumped over in his office chair. We imediately began to move him to the floor. He is a heavier set older gentleman and it took 3 of us to get him safely on the floor. The guy I ran in with ran out into the hall and got the AED and started to remove his shirt to attach the leads. I was searching for a pulse and breathing while I opened his airway. He had a very weak pulse and shallow breathing, although to be honest, he looked dead to me. I started to provide rescue breathing while my coworker did chest compressions. We did this for about 4 minutes and was relieved by the local fire department medics. When they relieved us, I stepped back and looked around. I didnt notice the large crowd that had ammassed around him. As I looked, I noticed his chest was cracking when they did the chest compressions.
After the paper work was finished, I realized how surreal it felt. I hope we did the right things. He is currently in critical condition at the Hospital but he has a pulse. I really hope he comes through and pray for his family. The guy is only like 53....
