For anyone interested, here's the latest manifestation of the UK's crazy anti-knife agenda; on sale now!

First 'anti-stab' knife to go on sale in Britain

That thing is wrong on so many levels it's difficult to get one's head around. Anyone care to place bets on how long it will be before legislation is passed in the UK requiring all kitchen knives to have this "NEW- stab-proof" tip design?

I wonder of the designer of that knife would be willing to stand there and let me try to stab him with it. If it really works, there's nothing to be afraid of, right?

I started reading the comments and it seemed like MOST people made sense in that...It wont do a darn thing for crime rates. Most people agreed that tools/weapons what have you dont hurt people....Other people do. So at least that was good to see.

The knife is Pointless (yup I made that joke) and probably wont sell well but who knows.

that knife must be one of the most stupid things i've ever seen.
with this new law about one hand openers being banned, the next step is to make it sharpened pencils illegal.

excellent, long overdue idea. this will make for much safer streets. i hope it becomes law asap and i hope we Americans are smart enough to follow suit!

edit to add - it can't stop there, though. for TRUE safety, we need to make all baseball bats out of plastic and hammer's out of neoprene. then we should be fine :-)

apart from the fact that it's still perfectly capable of opening a person's abdomen because it's STILL SHARP, two minutes with a dremel gives you a normal chef's knife AND a fairly comfortable shank.

Anything can be used as a weapon if used that way. And how is this thing anti-stab? That would just make stabbing hurt worse. Imagine that blunt piece going into you. That's so stupid that it's actually pretty funny. This isn't even the kind of thing that should make you mad, this is just hilarious. In fact, I'm convinced that this is a practical joke.

Britain and the US are gonna end up like the movie "Demolition Man". Move to Asia if possible - they don't seem to give a damn here. You need to do something criminal with a tool or weapon before it becomes a crime. Innocent until proven guilty seems pretty pointless when new laws are being made making everyday items and things you say illegal. I couldn't believe when someone told me the Scouts had banned knives in the UK. I'd be quite happy to see increased sentences for knife crime but not simply for carrying a knife. Maybe even making it illegal for previous violent offenders to own or carry knives - not that it would make much difference anyway - in my experience, glass is used a lot more to attack people with than knives and the only knife I've been threatened with was a cheap kitchen knife.

Just to ramble a little more - I heard of a case recently here where a man was attacking someones wife and baby and her husband defended her (And possibly saved there lives) with a kitchen knife. The husband was detained but not charged. Think he'd be automatically jailed in the UK for that.

i've always believed in prohibiting DOING certain things NOT POSESSING certain things. however, as pointless as this knife is, i can understand the reasoning that went into. alot of violent crimes are committed with "grab and go's", just whatever happens to be lying around. i can see why SOME people would prefer kitchen cutlery that was A LITTLE less effective as a spur of the moment imporvised weapon. if i had an unstable teenager that was hostile, living with me, i'd rather him grab that out of a drawer than a typical butcher knife. might give me an edge.

all in all i think these will do VERY LITTLE to reduce violent crimes because they only stand to reduce a specific area of criminal attacks.

btw - i haven't see one in person, but i think i could successfully thrust one of those into a human target.

unfortunately, i do NOT think this is a practical joke and i think the very existance of this knife will help fuel the fight for "abuse proof" knives :-(

Apparently, nobody ever told the designer of this knife that a wide blade (like this one) has excellent slashing power. A slash to the neck or extremities that severs a major artery will cause death as surely as a stab to a vital organ will. You cannot make an idiot-proof knife any more than you can make an idiot-proof firearm

I would like to have some clever sounding quote from some bygone great mind, but I'll leave that to someone else and just state this very plainly:

Crime, and more specifically, murder, is a reality of civilization. It can never been eliminated completely. It will always be here as surely as the sun rises. It can be reduced, measures can be taken against it, but it will never truly be gone. Britain seems to have lost sight of this. They want to stop ALL murder, but it will NEVER happen.

Look at prisons. They're the most rigidly regulated areas on the world when it comes to anything that could be a weapon. Murder still happens. We can ban everything, it will still happen.

I could go on about sociology and preventing crime through fixing the problems with the people themselves, but that is a whole other can-o-worms.

When are they going to start going after little old ladies with knitting needles?? What about restricting needles for diabetics? The world is going nuts

To me the funny thing is that if u actually know how to fight with a knife. Most often u r taught to not hold the knife with the point facing the target. U hold it with the point facing the other way in an almost "upside down" grip. with the back of the knife, if it is not double edged up against the bottom of ur arm. lol pointless

Thats only the beginning. As this evolves the knife will have to be on a chain and bolted and welded to the kitchen counter. Then the public safety task force will make regular inspections of homes and businesses to make sure the knife and chain pass inspections and that knife permits are up to date.

Think of the cash grab. Knife registration costs, permits, and that chains and fasteners be replaced on a regular schedual at the expence of the owner.

Wow.......... I can honestly say I wouldn't be able to think of something that stupid and useless if I tried...... what the heck is this world coming to? Don't people understand that knives are tools? Don't they understand that the bad guys out there simply don't care what the laws are and will do what they want and use what they want no matter what?
