Here it is. My first was the 710. Thought if i messed up i was only out 8 bucks. Came out good then went on to the skyline. I dont think it was a total failure. Lets see yours.

hey what kind of acid are you using? I got some pcb etching solution from radioshack to try this and I first tried it on my tenacious and it turned out really blotchy and wasnt to pleased with it. How long submerged did it take to get those results?

Thank you.

I used that radio shack stuff also. Submerged for a out 20-25 minutes. Make sure you wipe everything with alcohol real good before you put it in acid. All oils will show up if not wiped off. Maybe thats why your was blotchey????

That looks really cool! I'd like to try that to my new cheap Kershaw. Would you be able to tell me more of the process? or link me to it? Thanks

Youtube has quite a few videos on how to. I just used PCB etching solution for 30 min then stonewashed in the dryer for an hour.

I'm thinking about trying this w/ my ukpk, but I'm wondering, what does etching in acid do? Is it a necessary step in getting a DIY stonewash finish?

I did clean it with solvent before giving it the bath. I didnt know if I really needed it, I just figured it'd be good to do. I bet I didnt clean it well enough.

Thanks! Ill give that a try.

No its not necessary, it just gives it that dark kind of worn color. If you want to see more acid washed knives watch some of tuffthumbz videos he does it all the time to knives. Although he didnt figure out the technique he seemed to make it very popular recently. I never really ever seen it done until he started doing a lot of them now you see it all the time on here and youtube.

And no Im not a tuffthumbz fan boy

My attempt at this:

I found some muriatic acid in the garage, so I figured why not. I did my Gayle Bradley, Gayle Bradley Air, PPT, stainless scales for a CB Leek and a couple of clips, and a Kershaw Rake whose blade I polished.

The CPM-M4 from the GB and GB Air actually took on sort of an anodized effect, and was still sort of shiny. I left those in the acid for about 30 minutes. The PPT's S30V soaked for about 2 hours and came out grayish and matte which I buffed with 0000 steel wool. The Leek scales and clips came out dull and dark grey, which is what I wanted. I wanted it to look like the Ti-ZDP Leek that I just got. The Rake didn't come out so good. The 14C28N etched unevenly, and showed signs of pitting in some spots. The D2 edge remained unaffected after 30 minutes in the acid. The best results I got came from the CPM-M4 and S30V.
