Well today I made a pair of matching firesteels for my dad and I. I used 2 armegeggan firesteels from firesteel.com, and a block of walnut I had from a knife project for the handles. Heres a pic of the one I made for my dad. I used a bandsaw, my craftsman 2x42 belt grinder, and a piece of 1000 grit sandpaper. I used jb weld to bond the firesteel. Keep in mind, this was a first attempt, and it was done by a 13 yr old. Comments and crit. are welcome.

Looks darn good my man. Lot better than most 13 y.o. boys could do. I'd be proud of it. I think you have a great start on a rewarding hobby, and skills you develop making amd using things like this are skills no one can take from you. And will keep you that much more ahead of your peers. Keep it up young man, and be proud.

That looks really good man  how do you find the handles? are they comfy?

are you going to put some varnish/oil on the walnut? it would help protect it, and bring out a nice colour

I had a block of walnut I got free with a order of knife handle wood, they are very comfy, I just kinda got it where it was comfy and rounded all the edges. then I went over everything for 1000 grit sandpaper to smooth it up.

Good work... keep it up!!!

I'm going to give it a try as soon as my fire steel comes from goinggear.com (apparently they should have been here on Wed :( )
