First attempt at G10

I recently tried to make some G10 scales for my Spyderco Tenacious. Everyone seems to start out on a similar type of pattern (grind from both sides at an angle with a dremel) so I figured I'd try something along those lines. Both sides are orange and black layered, but one side starts on orange while the other starts on black. I wanted to leave some of the first layer on each side to kind of differentiate them, but it didn't turn out as well as I was hoping. :o The general fit of the scales is pretty darn near perfect though. Thanks for looking, feel free to give me some hints for future work.

That's worlds better than my first attempt. Good job dude:thumbup: You could always sand that black side down a bit to expose some orange so the sclaes match a bit more:)

I wanted them to sort of be reverses of each other, that's why I had the black side up on that one. This knife will be my lab rat for an experiment on installing bearings, so I'm not too worried about the looks right now :) Thanks!

What don't you like about them? (Edit - nevermind, my tablet took a long time to post, but now I see your reply)

Having started carving wood recently I've found that when doing work that involves a preconceived layout that it's best (for me) to draw my intentions on the project.

The only thing that I see on your scales that some may consider a defecit is the asymmetry between the grind patterns on each scale. With the scales having a unique color layout to begin with I don't see any faults.

I like them.

Thanks for the support :) The asymmetry wouldn't bother me too much, but on the black scale my hand was a little unsteady so I've got some wavy grind lines. Nothing too bad, but I can notice it enough in person to kick myself about it a little. Hopefully I'll have some more original designs to share in the near future.

I operate the exact same way. Unfortunately it is never perfect, and rarely good enough. But then I suppose that's why we see constant improvement, even if it sucks for us. ;)
