I ordered some red liner material and got a couple tube flaring tools from a forumite to fatten up my SJ LE and install a set of snake slabs I have from a donor knife.
The liner material is easy to cut to the handle shape but i screwed up drilling the holes in it for the tubes. They were off center just slightly leaving it slightly under on the spine and over on the belly. I'm going to trace out a couple more and do it right.
The tubes were easy to flare but one split (sterile side/middle/seen in last 2 snake pictures) on one side due to not centering it. The other two did not quite mate correctly to the scales. Rock solid but not quite right so i'm going to drill out the tubes and do it again.

After doing this, I can't figure out what Busse uses to get the tubes so perfectly seated and flared. Maybe someone has some insight into this.
Also, any pointers before the second attempt would be appreciated.

Sorry I cannot help with your questions but I want to say that the Snake scales transform the knife into something way better looking than original

Wow, great job!! I would consider that a success!

How did you cut the liners so perfectly and what are they made of?

Impressive. I think most of us would not fare as well, should we try that project.

Give the tubes a heattreat next time and use grease as Tinbasher said to prevent ripping and tearing...

Nice mod though, well done!!!

They are from Jantz Supply. Not sure what the material is. I used a retractable box cutter to score the outline on the material then to further score it without the slab on the material. The top of the each slab was lined up with the perfectly squared edge of the liner so that line is straight and was a no brainer.
An Exacto knife helped shave the excess on the belly curves.

Crafft and Tinbasher ... Thank you for the tips. I'm going to follow those when I redo the rivets. Makes much sense!

I think you did a great job on it for your first time.

You will only get better each time you do it and everyone's tips just add to the pool of knowledge.

Nice blade.

Nice blade.

Practice will make perfect and the tips are excellent.
I'm eyeing a few of my others for red liners as well, mainly my black/snake CBT FBM. The standard snakes are all thin but I dislike the hand shaped mags on others so a few layers of red and black under each slab will be perfect for me.

That's interesting,, lots of ways to skin a cat,, heating nickel silver or stainless tubes!! , grease,, I guess the 100 or so times I've done it ,, I just got lucky,, looks great, nice jack,

I read thru all our past PM's right before trying it. I appreciate the tips and the tube tools. Big thanks to you Horton

looks decent to me. I think if I ever try it, I will for sure do it first with my ghetto SS. Now that I have a vice, I might actually be able to do it.
