I've been making my first attempt at modding...

Nothing spectacular, just a convex edge and villagerizing a blem BGRS I have.

It's a Bura BGRS, standard HI in horn. There were some superficial cracks in the handle - BAMs.

I started with 600 grit sandpaper on the handle and it's worked pretty well to remove the slickness.

The same thing on the blade worked OK, made the mistake of folling up on that with 1500 grain to diffuse the lines, which actually started to make it shiny again (like a smudged mirror). Decided to go a little further and used 280 grit, which brought back some of the look I was trying to get on the blade.

I used sand paper to start on the convexing of the edge, first by hand (A couple layers of wet/dry sandpaper), then using sandpaper on stacked denim (I don't have any mousepads - I use trackballs). It's not what I'd call scary sharp, but it'll slice paper at this point. Scuffing the blade with the sandpaper first made the whole process somewhat easier to work on the convex edge.

I figure another couple days here and tehre to get it where I want it..

you must share your secret on how to sharpen using a trackball ;)

p.s.- i'm sharpening even as i write, strop strop strop, oops, must go put a band-aid on.......didn't even feel that one. shallow cut to top of left hand. must clean blood off keyboard & get out needle & catgut. (1st must catch cat), bye. :D

p.p.s - make note to self not to try sharpening an opinel while mind is elsewhere.

The hardest part is catching the track and cutting it off before the blade is sharpo...
