So. I have begun swapping my modern tacticals for traditionals. Today I went to our local swap meet and met my usual knife dealer, who has a stall there every week. I traded him a Benchmade Onslaught for a Case Barlow. I really liked that big Onslaught, I'm a fan of the design and the designer (the late and great Bob Lum), but I just haven't carried it in some months because it's just *too* big. I swapped over for the new barlow and some cash, so I made out fairly well. Anyway, the barlow is much more pocket-friendly and has a lot more character.

Etched bolster, William Russell Case etched clip blade, half-stops, strong-but-not-too-strong springs and snap, razor edges and clean grinds, mirror polished blade and perfectly fitted bone scales. Good, good stuff.

I also came across a copy of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer while on my way home at a used bookstore, and picked it up. I recently watched this review on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U_7g...xt=C3adcc4cUDOEgsToPDskKXvBo_WATQyhZxklcFOYy_ , which helped influence my choice.

I am very pleased with that swap.

Sweet Barlow!! I enjoyed the review you posted. Very interesting reviews he is doing.

I stopped at an old junk store in an old town, looking for vintage pocket knives, and came across an old book entitled...The Farm by Louis Bromfield; I bought it for 8 bits. I now seek out all his writings. Next up is Early Autumn

Very nice Barlow, I would be pleased with that swap too!

My first Barlow was a cheap Colonial I bought when I was just a young boy. Still have it.

That is the first Barlow I've seen that I had any interest in. Especially like the detailing on the bolster. Really nice.

Thanks, gents. This one really makes me happy. I'm glad I went for this one.

Thanks, BRL. Wonder if Kabar ever made barlows...? ;)

I believe Kabar did make a Barlow years ago, not sure if they do now. That Case Barlow of yours is a beauty. I've a few Barlows myself and really like the pattern.
Case Barlows are my favourites. I think I'd like some more :)

As everyone has said, thats a nice Barlow, I have a absolute beaut of a Barlow, a early red bone Case, and its just a lovely knife, now you have this one.....keep an eye out for the longer Barlow ( Grandaddy Barlows ) some of them are just awesome!

I used to overlook barlows. Now I too have a real affinity for them. Just an historical, understated workhorse.

I have that same barlow in the OP. It's very nice! If I could figure out how to get the billboard off of the blade, it would be just about perfect. :)

Sweet looking knife and it's a Case! I think it's great looking with The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Someone should come up with a book/knife pack just like you have it to sell.

I agree, it's a good trade you drove. Something you can actually USE is the way to go. To me, a large tactical knife is akin to knives kept solely for collecting purposes: they give some enjoyment just from looking and manipulating them, but not as much as if they are used.

That is a peach of a pocket knife, I really like those scales.
I think you got the nicer knife, but thats just me. That one will age very well after you give it some pocket time.

That's a beauty of a Barlow, and a good trade as well.
I laughed a bit when I read this part
Today I went to our local swap meet and met my usual knife dealer
I got an image of a TKA meeting..."hi my name is _______ and today I bought a knife"

Thanks, guys. I'm very pleased with him... He was keeping me company last night as I started Tom Sawyer. :)

The *only* things that I would change about this knife would be to remove the etching from the blade, and make the blades carbon steel rather than stainless. Nothing wrong with Case's stainless, I just like carbon steel better and it ages well, as you all know. ;)

Next up, I think, will be a large stockman pattern, or one of the linerlocking folding hunters with the upswept blade.

That's a beauty of a Barlow, and a good trade as well.
