Hey all -

Just ordered my limited run BK10 (totally amped for it to arrive) and already thinking ahead to a sheath upgrade. I've seen some reports here and elsewhere of the Spec Ops Combat Master Sheath (shorty) fitting the BK2, etc. and other pics, but I just want whether or not the BK10 specifically will fit well in there. If not, any other recommendations? If yes, does the kydex have to be remolded to fit the thumb ramp? Saw some good links with some good pics from old threads but just wanna make sure...as a first time Becker owner I wanna get my info straight! The stock sheath may be just fine, but we'll see....

Also, I've read reports about the nuts/bolts in the BK2 often benefiting from loc-tite. That the case for most Becker blades/handle scales? What type of loc-tite? Something I should consider on the BK10? Hard to get those buggers out after the loc-tite?

Any special tips for removing bolts/nuts for swapping handle scales? Saw in a recent thread some ppl had trouble with the micarta ones.

I know a lot of things will become clearer with use/time, just wanting the experts' opinions.

Anything else you think I should know? I'm all ears! :thumbup: And looking forward to pursuing beckerhead status/number!

Yeah it's an easy fix, i used a hair dryer to soften the plastic insert.

What does the spec ops offer the camillus sheath doesn't? Seems pretty similar, I order a combat master for my 2 but I think the camillus one is great for the 10

The Spec Ops is just a better rough-use sheath. Thicker fabric. Tougher materials. Also, the Spec Ops offers better attachment to Molle Straps if you want to lash to a pack.
On the down side, the pocket isn't as expandable. An Altoids tin will fit in the stock BK-10 sheath but not in the Spec Ops.
As mentioned, the modification to allow room for a thumb ramp is as easy as boiling water. Or you can chop off the thumb ramp. :p

An easy way to put the nuts in the micarta for mounting is to thread the bolt on the nut about 1/4 of it's length, then tap the nut in place using the bolt to keep it straight until it bottoms out.

as in via remolding the kydex in boiling water? or just repeated manipulation/manual "stretching" of the kydex over time/use? if you can elaborate that'd be great. thanks!

Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn, and caldron bubble.

Boil that puppy!

i put the handles together by themselves, with a washer on the bolt head side, and then use the power of threads to pull the nut in as far as i want it... just tighten. THEN you have enough reach to just assemble on the knife. as for removing the nuts, i don't. i buy more, and use spares (from another knife even) if i swap handles. which i don't do much.

I find a Spec Ops sheath easier to put on. Don't have to take off your belt, just un-snap the belt loops and fit them thru your belt and re-snap.

thanks all for the responses, much appreciated. got my blade in and it is SWEET. the sheath, while serviceable, is something i'll probably upgrade, so the comments here and throughout the forum are much appreciated.
