Hey All,

So I finally bit the bullet and bought my first Becker (BK2) the other day. I grew up and live in San Diego, so I have never been big on fixed blades. Growing up, I carried a SAK and for the past 10 years or so have been carrying a folder. Carrying a Spyderco Endura now and usually have a Leathermen Juice S2 in my pack. Beyond a few crap fixed I've acquired throughout the years, the only fixed blade I have is an old USMC KBAR from the late 70's that was gifted to me. Kinda appropriate starting with a KBAR and moving onto a KBAR/BKT if you ask me.

So I got my BK2 a week or two ago. My first impression was (and I laugh as I write this), "Woah, this isn't as big as it looks in the pictures." Now mind you, I am a big guy (6'3 and about 250) but the infamous Becker "Prybar of Doom" of the internet always looks HUGE in the pictures. In reality, I think it is a near perfect size and fit my hand like a glove. I found the balance to be solid and found it to be a great balance between a pocket folder and a large bowie or machette. I ended up taking it outside, making a featherstick (something I am VERY new to as I am just now getting into the baby-steps of outdoors/bushcraft "stuff") and broke up some logs I had into manageable firewood.

Now, one issue I have found, and have been wanting to ask here is that the original handle does not fit flush with the tang on the left side (looking down on the knife). What do you guys suggest I do for this? Should I contact BKT directly?

So real quickly before I finish, as you may know, we had a HUGE power-outage down here in Southern-California with over 5-million left with no electricity. Now I could have grabbed a match and light my stove, but I hadn't really gotten a change to try out my Becker, so I ended up splitting my firewood into smaller pieces with my BK2, got out my firerod, and started a little fire in my backyard and cooked via moonight; frying up some onions and potatoes and a little tri-tip I had bought the day before. Beyond the area of the handle, the BK2 preformed flawlessly (and I know I should of taken some pictures to post up on here, ...next time for sure!).

So hello, I look forward to getting to know everyone, and thanks in advance for all the fantastic info you guys have created/shared on here. I have learned a lot already.

Welcome, glad you're enjoying your 2 and hope you stick around! I can't really help with your issue, but if I understand your problem correctly somebody at Ka-Bar's customer service should be more than capable of happily helping you out. SoCal is great, I lived in a slightly more guarded area there, but I enjoyed it.

Shake the sand out of your sandals and come on in the house. Welcome and enjoy that BK2. You might be able to loosen the handle screws, realign the scales and retighten. I've done that on a couple of them.

Unscrew the nuts holding the handle scales - little wiggle and tighten things back up and you should be straight. Better yet, while you are at it take the factory black nuts completely out and replace with some stainless steel allen bolts and nylon lock washers. About $3 at the hardware store. Keeps your scales from getting loose and is rust proof.

Congrats on the new blade man... I'm glad you like it, and that you have already found ways to play with it. Mine has been used more around the house than anything like camping or batoning.

And also... I LOVE me some tri-tip. My Grandparents lived in SLO, and we ate it every time I went there (heck, almost every meal).and I love santa maria BBQ. Sadly, a good tri-tip is harder to find outside of CA :(.

Welcome to the fun :).

Welcome, Grizz. I would say just loosen those handles up a bit, and reseat them to fit flush.

They will fit perfect, I promise.

Once again, welcome, and glad you got a BK2, its a badass knife, for sure.

Moose

I think the 2 is a perfect "first" BKT. Unless your Moose and use it like a throwing knife (hee hee, leave it to moose to do the impossible) its a great knife to abuse and learn what can be done by a blade without the fear of killing your knife.

Welcome to the Becker Mansion. The brats and beer are in the fridge.

If the problem you are having is the Grivory scales overhanging the tang of the knife, You may try loosening the bolts a little to were they are just lightly snug and then move the scales to were you want them. Then crank them down tight.

Oh and hang around, we put up naked pictures of ourselves holding our knives.

Eyes bleeding builds character. You can look at anything now and not bat an eyelash. We did that. So quit yer whining. ;)

Welcome to our slice of insanity Grizz. We have a heck of a time in here, and these are some of the best people you will ever meet on the internet. Good bunch of folks here. Stick around and get to know 'em. You won't regret it.
