Hey all! This is my first thread and I am excited to join this forum and be a part of these Becker-minded people. I just got a BK2 for Christmas and once I saw the options for mod'ding I was sold. So here is the beginning of mine. I am almost done with stripping it with 100 grit paper and will eventually go 200, 400 and maybe 800. I am planning on following clich's etching idea with gun blue and bleach. So if anyone has any advice or tips I would love to hear 'em! Also, what is the best way to stipple the grivory handles?
Thanks a bunch.

Fixed the pics for you. You need to right click on the image, select "copy image address" and paste that into the IMG tag.

Wow! It looks great!
I really have to strip mine sometime soon.
Are you going to put a patina on it?

Thanks a lot! I am planning on doing a gun blue and bleach patina. I kinda like one that clich did with a bk10 and some wax/lotion for dry hands. It turned out real nice. I'll be honest, I am a little worried though... This is my first mod project and I really don't want to mess it up.

Looking good so far. Just remember, that particular patina is permanent, so I hear....

Welcome.

it's way easy to do that gunblue/bleach mod from clich's thread.

like others have said, just know going in that it's a permanent etch into the metal. doesn't weaken it at all, but it's permanent. it's not like the patinas where if you don't like them you pull out some Flitz and scrub it all off. it's etched into the metal. but it's awesome looking. DO IT!

i've never done any mod other than stripping before either, and mine was simple as pie. only prob was finding something tall and skinny and glass to hold bleach and cover the whole blade. stole one of my wife's vases when she wasn't home. here's how mine turned out:

have fun, it's a good, easy, quick mod to do.

By looking at it I'm gonna say the flats. The etch gets the darkest and deepest where the blue ain't. Specifically at the places where the blue ends.

here's the thread i did re: this one.
http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...-bleach-thread-helped-bring-my-BK2-s-SexyBack

just in case you're lazy like me, here's the pertinent cut-n-paste:
i taped off at the swedge (covered the flat of the blade) and put a solid blueing on the upper flat and around the spine. then i removed the tape and bleached it point down at an angle to try and get the tracks along the flat of the blade like clich's. but mine didn't track up along the flat of the blade at all. don't know what i did different???
so then i just blotch/spot applied blue to the flats and soaked it again. came out like this.
followed with wash, 220grit, then blued it again to darken the etchings. then 220 again, 400 and 1000 grit to finish. then i convexed/resharpened the edge.
i liked the aged/patina'd look i was getting, so didn't sand all the way back to shiny at each grit, just to a point where i liked how it looked.

This is probably going to seem like a ridiculous question, but how hard should I be sanding? I was going AT it with the 100 grit.

Great Job. I think that soon i will strip mine. I have to use it a little more, and then do it hehe.
